There are no limits to the amount of attached nodes your can design using our technology which includes numerous shader development technologies. But this depends on the software application used. Maya and Softimage and to some extent 3D Studio Max for example, are more refined production software and our customers have implemented custom shader attachments in the hypershade for sub-surface scattering, for terrain applications, for custom 16bit geometry displacements using HSV to Raster conversions, and much more. Lightwave and Cinema4D are more hard coded and not as flexible with any type of shader environments but once you have what you want, they can certainly render much faster.
Our technology of texturing and uv mapping extremely large textures within Maya, Studio Max, Softimage, and Ligthwave, supports 100% of all third party tools, plugins, and renderers including Mentalray, Vray, FinalRender, Turtle, Maxwell, Brazil RS, VIZ RT, as we embed the texture look ups as the software applications SDK warrants us to.
Below we demonstrate a 3D Terrain Animation "Megatexture" and "Megadisplacement" pipeline incorporating a single satellite image of Nepal, China, at 48GB (10cm resolution) with a massive 1meter resolution 16bit displacement DEM. The results are in Mentalray with all the bells and whistles.
Exactly what our customers expect from true VFX quality HDRI shots.
